What is Auto Body Repair & Painting?
Students in the Auto Body Repair and Painting program experience real world projects with hands-on experiences. Students who complete the Auto-body Repair and Painting program graduate high school with a competitive advantage by integrating industry standard skills with rigorous academic curriculum.
The Auto Body Repair and Painting program aims to prepare our students to be ready for a career, not just a job after high school. Our students work with industry standard tools and equipment to learn the skills necessary to succeed in the auto industry while being exposed to a variety of career paths in the fields of auto body painting and collision repair. Students research careers, practice the finer points of repair and refinishing, and plan for their future by exploring careers ranging from estimating to detailing. Our students are ready to start their careers with the following industry-relevant skills and knowledge:
- Safe and positive work habits
- Customer service/management skills
- Write, read, and understand an estimate – repair plan
- An understanding of automotive systems like ADAS, SRS/ABS
- Repair, prepping and refinishing of collision-damaged vehicles
- An understanding of structural and non-structural analysis
- Professional detailing interior & exterior
- Certifications from I-Car, AC Service, PPG Paint and Detailing through the International Detailers Association
Students in Auto Body Repair and Painting learn contextualized Math and English, including dual credit from Clackamas Community College. Students receive coaching and resources to explore career options they may want to pursue directly out of the program or with continued education. Coupled with the experiences they have throughout this program; they graduate with a path to a successful career. With a foundation of industry-standard skills, Math and English training, and the ability to interact with technical equipment, our students are ready to pursue their dreams.
Jacinta Baker, English
Jacinta earned her B.S. in English from Corban and Master’s in Teaching from George Fox University. She has 18 years teaching experience and has taught at Sprague High School, North Salem High School, and EDGE. She has taught all high school grade levels of English as well as AVID, Writing and Reading Workshops, and AP Literature. Jacinta’s favorite thing about CTEC is that students appreciate the integrated core classes and see the content as meaningful and engaging. When Jacinta is not working, she enjoys gardening, kayaking, and listening to audiobooks.
Jessica Cavanaugh, Social Studies
Jessica Cavanaugh earned her BFA in theatre from Western Oregon University and her MAT from Willamette University. She taught at North Bend High School and Roots Academy Middle School prior to coming to CTEC. Jessica has worked at CTEC since 2022. Her favorite thing about working at CTEC is watching students from all different high schools come together and become a team in their programs. Jessica enjoys baking, reading, and spending time with her family.
Alex Crays has taught at CTEC since 2019. Prior to that, he worked for 30 years in the auto collision industry. Alex loves “seeing the “light bulb” come on when a student realizes they have a great future ahead of them.”
When Alex is not teaching, he enjoys riding ATVs and UTVs.
Joseph Rambeck began teaching at CTEC in 2022. Joseph teaches in the Law Enforcement and Auto Body Repair & Painting programs. He worked for almost 10 years in an auto body shop; he also worked for 7 years as an auto claims appraiser for an insurance company. Joseph “loves the opportunity to invest in students’ future by giving them industry experience that sets them for great success.” In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, playing video games and martial arts.
